Key developments

October 2026 - Armenia hosts CBD COP17 in Yerevan, where Parties are expected to consider decisions on the Cali Fundโ€™s allocation formula, certificates and contribution modalities. Armenia will subsequently hold the CBD Presidency for two years.

8 June 2026 - Armenia deposited its instrument of accession to the Nagoya Protocol with the United Nations. The Protocol entered into force for Armenia on 6 September 2026.

2 February 2026- Armenia and the United Kingdom agreed to cooperate on building Armeniaโ€™s capacity to advance the Cali Fund, including through thematic workshops and advisory support on COP16 outcomes and private-sector engagement.

December 2025 - Armenia joined the Friends of the Cali Fund.

ABS legislation

None yet. Newly bound with no implementing legislation adopted.

Armenia only recently entered the international ABS system: the Government approved a draft law to ratify the Nagoya Protocol on 18 December 2025, the Constitutional Court confirmed its compatibility with the Constitution on 24 February 2026, and the National Assembly adopted the ratification law on 25 March 2026 (94 votes in favour). Armenia deposited its instrument with the UN on 8 June 2026 and became a Party on 6 September 2026. Presenting the law to Parliament, the Ministry of Environment said the Protocol does not conflict with existing legislation but that regulatory adjustments will be needed to implement it effectively. Those implementing measures have yet to be developed and could in future cover DSI. They would include designating a competent national authority, setting up permit procedures for prior informed consent and mutually agreed terms, and linking to the ABS Clearing-House.
