Company overview

Meta owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, used by more than three billion people every day. Most of its revenue comes from advertising. It also builds virtual and augmented reality devices, such as Quest headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses, and invests heavily in artificial intelligence through its Llama models. Its AI lab built the ESM protein language models, trained on millions of natural protein sequences, and an atlas of over 600 million predicted protein structures from microbial DNA. In 2024 the ESM team left Meta to form a separate company, EvolutionaryScale.
